Freshman Concert Band

Freshman Concert Band is Erie’s developing high-school concert experience within the broader Concert Band pathway. Students build ensemble skills, tone quality, rhythmic accuracy, music literacy, rehearsal habits, and confidence through daily rehearsal and public performance.

How it fits the program

Per EHS Band audition guidance, Concert Band starts after Marching Band has completed and continues into the spring semester in the band room. It is a performance-oriented learning experience — class rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances are mandatory (typically 2–3 evening performances per semester). Previous band experience is required, but no audition is necessary for Concert Band.

Register for MU1101B Concert Band (Spring semester only) unless current registration guidance says otherwise
Fall pathway for most woodwinds/brass is Marching Band before moving into spring concert placements
Drumline members typically move into Concert Band or Symphonic / Veteran placement in the spring after fall percussion

Daily concert-band rehearsal during the school day
Music literacy, rehearsal habits, tone development, and ensemble listening
Concert preparation across the All Bands concert cycle
Concert Black for standard performances

Performances

Freshman Concert Band appears in the EHS performance calendar as part of the December, March, and May concert cycle, and may also participate in festivals when scheduled.
